A Showcase is an event that provides the students and instructors of the BlueBallRoom an opportunity to “showcase” their dance talents to their friends, family, peers and our guest judge.  The event features performances from BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED STUDENTS during the afternoon.  This is followed by a buffet dinner/dance party and performances by our staff and guest champions.

Two Ways To Participate:

Showcase Routine is generally done in a dance that the student has a strong affinity for.
By specializing in that dance, the student develops enhanced skills and learns material that challenges them in ways a normal social dance program would not.  In addition, the excitement of performing improves confidence, styling and other skills that make social dancing a breeze.

Freestyle Event is an un-rehearsed, un-choreographed group dance for NEW STUDENTS or those trying a new dance style.  This is not a competition as the student is evaluated against a given standard and expected characteristics of the dance selected.  You dance alongside fellow students but are critiqued against yourself.  It’s very exciting to participate, to watch and cheer-on your fellow students.

Guest Performers – Justin and Hannah, National Smooth Champions

Enjoy the performance of our Guest Performers Justin & Hannah.  They are current amateur national champion competitors residing in Charleston, SC.

Justin:

Since starting ballroom at Case Western Reserve University’s competitive ballroom team, his interest in traveling to various parts of the United States to compete (and to enjoy the places!) never stopped.

Outside of competing, Justin co-founded two tech startup companies (Wunderfund, Inc. and Sodalis Health, LLC.), FinTech companies that service small businesses in Cincinnati and Louisville, and also remotely works as the Lead Software Architect for Dance Vision.

Hannah:

Before joining the ballroom team at the Ohio State University, Hannah had competed extensively with the LeDance Studio (Cincinnati) in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop, and was a 2-time high school dance team champion. She started ballroom her freshman year of college.

Outside of dance, Hannah is a physical therapist and recently took on a new role as the Therapy Manager for all inpatient therapies at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Justin and Hannah have known each other almost 15 years and have been competitive partners for 7 years, competing in Smooth and Standard.  Together they are happy to have accomplished the following:

  • National Adult Smooth Champions, USA Dance Nationals (2023 & 2024)
  • National Senior-1 Smooth Champions, USA Dance Nationals (2023 & 2024)
  • Current Finalist, Adult Senior-1 Championship Standard, USA Dance Nationals
  • Current Finalist, Senior-1 Championship Standard, USA Dance Nationals

Both of these great dancers are passionate about their craft, serving on boards of the USA Dance organization, committed to growing and promoting ballroom dancing for all.  Justin and Hannah also have exciting news…they are getting married in August this year!
